Man shot in attempted Xbox robbery
STOCKTON -- A man believed to be a University
of the Pacific student was shot in the arm early
Tuesday during a botched residential robbery that
targeted an expensive video-game console and video
games.
Three men -- two 19-year-olds and a 20-year-old
-- were playing Xbox games at 5:15 a.m. when three
masked men, one armed with a 9mm handgun, walked
into their home in the 900 block of West Mendocino
Avenue, police and neighbors said. The masked
men demanded money and video games and tried to
take the console.
One of the 19-year-olds grabbed the robber's
gun, which fired several times during the struggle.
A bullet struck the 19-year-old in his left biceps
and hit one of the robbers in the groin, police
said. The victim wrestled away the handgun, and
the three robbers fled in a white, two-door Honda
Accord.
Police later arrested Eric Hunley Jr., 22, of
Fresno at Dameron Hospital, where he underwent
surgery for his wound. No other arrests had been
made as of Tuesday evening.
Neighbors said five or six Pacific students live
at the house across the street from the campus.
Neighbors suspected someone had seen the video-game
equipment during one of the frequent parties at
the house.
The incident was the first major crime Doris
Scott, 84, could remember in the 15 years she
has lived in the neighborhood.
"As far as I know, there have been no problems,"
she said. |
